Obsessed with… Marc Jacobs Beauty

By Melissa Paul, Features Editor

In less than a month Marc Jacobs’ new color cosmetics collection will hit the shops and we cannot wait! The 120 line of beauty products, packaged in supershiny black compacts, include everything a bride needs, from foundations and concealers in every skin tone, to luscious statement colors for lips, cheeks, eyes, and nails. The nail polishes range from moody to vivid, all named by Jacobs himself, and the elliptical blushes are stamped to look like faille, a beloved fabric of the designer.

Available at Sephora stores around the globe and online, the Marc Jacobs Beauty collection is just one of several designers with makeup on his mind. Gucci, Jason Wu, Alber Elbaz at Lanvin, Michael Kors, Pierre Hardy and others have new lines of cosmetics launching in the next 18 months, joining the already successful Giorgio Armani, Tom Ford, Burberry and Dolce & Gabbana houses who added the beauty segment to the international marketplace.

Although many fashion designers have tried adding beauty to their stables before, most notably in the 1970’s, it doesn’t always work. Just look at Ralph Lauren, Anna Sui and Versace’s failed attempts. Modern-day beauty is ever-evolving and fast innovation is key, as is the packaging, store placement and client experience. It’s not an easy jump to make but we’re excited to see the savvy trend unfold and wish Marc Jacobs well in his upcoming launch! After all, beauty is the natural extension, or cherry on the sundae, of a designer’s creative vision.
