Question:  How do I know if I need a wedding planner?   {asked by Melissa M., New York City}

I, of course, feel every bride and groom should have a wedding planner to help assist with designing your ideal celebration. Weddings today take careful planning and detailed orchestration, almost as if producing a movie! Particularly when planning an event in another country or in a city not your own. Turning to a professional wedding planner not only brings their vast, curated wealth of knowledge of who the right vendors you should work with; but also how to build a well-timed celebration, one element at a time; as well as manage the complicated, and sometimes, sensitive logistics on the big day. There are hundreds of reasons for a wedding planner, let me assure you, such as:

1. You’re having trouble finding  a wedding location;

2. You need help allocating the budget and prioritizing expenditures;

3. You need good experienced suggestions for vendors and event partners;

4. You need help understanding and negotiating your venue and vendor contracts;

5. You need help dealing with both sides of the family, or several sides of the family, depending;

6. You are an out of town bride and groom and you need direction and continued planning until you can make it to the location; and

7. You and your family want to be relaxed and enjoy every minute of the weekend of your life.

Starting from the beginning of the planning process is always best, and once you know  you’re ready to get a wedding planner in your corner, start searching for the right one by making calls to your friends to hear who they’ve worked with, as well as who luxury hotels refer to, etc. When calling the planner’s office to get more information and pricing, make sure to inquire what the pricing includes specifically before you arrange to meet the planner. No sense wasting your’s or the planner’s time if the price or service doesn’t fit your needs.

Wishing you all the best with your planning! and keep those wedding planning questions coming!
