What the Mind Can Imagine, Event Designer Ed Libby Can Create
Walking into an Ed Libby designed event; whether it be a lavish wedding or an incredible engagement party, one is struck by the originality, color, grandeur, scale and magnificence of his interiors. Libby’s “signatures” include huge floral and crystal chandeliers dripping from the ceiling, majestic columns and fountains bearing candles and profusely surrounded with floral bouquets, as well as human statues created by BodyCastTM, an Ed Libby & Co. Corporation. No matter the design scheme, it’s clear that Ed Libby creates unforgettable wedding celebrations.
We’re honored to have Ed Libby as one of our Creative Partners and from the get-go, we’ve absolutely fallen in love with his obvious passion for wedding design and for his fully-realized experiential events. It’s all about the grand design fleshing out into the smallest of gracious, clever details that go beyond napkin folds and votive candles. That’s the hallmark of an Ed Libby wedding. He even designs the scent of the wedding through fragrance enhancement!
When designing wedding tablescapes, Libby pays particular attention to the texture of the linens such as rich velvets, sensual silks, hand-embroidered overlays, organza with hand-sewn paillettes or ostrich feathers or fur-trimmed leather damask. From there, Libby layers beautiful flowers, romantic candlelight and ambient lighting to create an emotional experience for the bride and groom, as well as their wedding guests. An experience that will keep them talking long after the wedding is over.
“Every event should be a feast for the senses. I live for each detail – it must be just so. Each aspect of the design is personally governed by me,” says Ed Libby. “Straight off next season’s fashion runway, I take a couture approach to atmospheric event design.”
Over twenty years ago, Libby began his career in a small workspace in his home. He built his business around flowers, which remain an essential element of his wedding designs to this day. He has traveled extensively to Europe and Asia and these influences are evident in his floral creations and wedding designs. It did not take long until his business grew into what is now Ed Libby & Co. His company is the first design studio to blend art with live entertainers in order to create dramatic new dimension in event production. Implementing gifted artists, talented actors, extravagantly costumed and innovatively body-painted models, BodyCastTM creates lavish, eye dazzling, living sets to stimulate even the most jaded guest.
Ed Libby & Co. was chosen as event designer for the innovated “Wall Street Concert Series” hosted by Cipriani from 2005 to 2007 featuring such artists as Rod Stewart, Alicia Keys, Cheryl Crow, Lionel Richie, Marc Anthony, Mary J. Blige, Fergie, Kanye West and Beyonce Knowles. He designed not only the 75 full-dinner tables but also worked with these performers to create their artful stages. Libby was interviewed by NY Magazine Wedding Guide as “the event design expert” in “Ask The Expert” and was featured as the “King of Design” in Grace Ormonde Wedding Style’s Fall 2011 Edition.
Ed Libby has been on countless television shows, including a guest appearance on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Art Director on the Season 2 Premier of America’s Next Top Model, the featured event designer on Arts & Entertainment’s Growing Up Gotti, Style Networks special Party Fabulous: Kimora Lee Simmons’ Fashion Week Party and most recently VH1’s LaLa’s Full Court Wedding, Style Networks Kimora: Life in the Fab Lane and the Season 4 Premier of TLC’s Cake Boss.
