Breaking The News After Popping the Question: Creative Ways to Tell Them You Said YES!

You said yes!  Now, you get to tell the World that you will soon be marrying the love of your life!  The question is, how do you break the news?  Sure, a simple edit of your relationship status on Facebook would make your friends, friends of friends and the public at large instantly aware of your new engagement, but we know that you want to make the moment as special for your closest friends and family as your love is to you.

We’ve compiled a very short- but creative!- list of five ways to break the news that you might consider.  We endeavored to choose options that give you a chance to share intimately and in a heartfelt manner, as well as more creative options for those of you who really like to take a hands on approach to your announcement.  No matter your personality, we have some great options to help you share the most exciting news of your life with those you love.

So, check out our suggestions, find an option that works for you as a couple and get out there and share the good news!

1.  PRETTILY POLISHED

Arrange a spa date with your closest girlfriends.  Plan a moment in the midst of the pampering to show off your new bling- maybe even over a Spa luncheon.  Not only will you have your nearest right there with you to squeal in delight, you can get your nails done, too, so that you’ll be perfectly polished whenever you extend your sparkling ring finger for closer inspection.

2.  PERFECTLY STYLED

Hire your favorite photographer to style a photo session featuring you and your love.  Choose a location and theme suitable to your story.  Did you meet in the city?  Use a creative prop like a newspaper with the words, ‘She Said Yes!’ juxtaposed on it.  Do you enjoy baking together?  Cut out sugar cookies to spell, ‘We’re Getting Married!,’ or something equally as sweet.  Are you teachers (this is a cute idea even if you aren’t!)?  Have a calligrapher create a hand-drawn blackboard announcement for you that says, ‘YES,’ and then have the photographer shoot the two of you holding the board and gazing into one another’s eyes.

This is your chance to express what it is that you love about your relationship, and create a lovely way to remember the occasion through imagery.  After your closest friends and family discover the news, you can easily share these images on Social Media.  Such a cute way to let your love be known!

3.  DINNER AND AN ANNOUNCEMENT

Invite your nearest and dearest over for a dinner party, or reserve a table at your favorite boutique restaurant.  Order wine for the table and then announce your intentions.  You’ll be the center of a glorious round of toasts!

4.  BY DESIGN

Select a fabulously creative stationer and have their studio pull together an announcement that will completely wow those nearest you.  Include elements that reflect your personality, tastes and style as a couple.  A skilled stationer will be able to create a custom monogram for you and your love that you can utilize throughout your engagement and even use to brand your wedding.  Since you will send the news via the post, each recipient will receive the announcement at a different time, initiating a domino effect of joy and well wishes.

5.  NOW STARRING

If you’re the creative type, you might have fun putting together a little something of your own.  Make a brief film (or enlist the efforts of a trusted and talented friend!) that shares your love story, how he proposed and your response!  Retelling the story between yourselves will be a fun way to revel in the afterglow of the proposal.

Next, invite family and friends over for a movie night and drinks.  When it’s time to start the film, be sure that your original ‘film’ is in the player instead.  Your nearest and dearest will be astonished when they see you on the ‘big’ screen, and even more astonished to discover that your engagement is the actual focus of the evening!  Enjoy these moments of superstardom as a newly engaged couple.
