A Must Read: DAVID STARK's New Book "The Art of the Party"

By Melissa Paul, Features Editor

“A party begins as an empty canvas,” says legendary event designer, David Stark, President, Founder and Creative Director of event planning firm David Stark Design & Production. And there’s no better design canvas than a wedding celebration!  Clearly, as anyone knows from his previous design books as well as in his body of work found on his website, David is up to the blank canvas challenge. In fact, he relishes it.

In his new book, David Stark: The Art of the Party, David shares his creative inspiration for whimsical, artistic and unexpected designs which are often created from sustainable, industrial, or other everyday materials to the fabulous delight of his devoted clients. Twenty-five of David Stark’s events are featured in glorious detail in this new must-have coffee table book. Each presenting as a thorough case study of how he developed the event employing color, texture and scenic elements married thoughtfully with personal detail. When woven together so artfully, it’s easy to see that David Stark doesn’t just plan weddings and design parties. Rather, he produces original, transformative experiences that celebrate the process of creating a party.

“Even something as basic as the seating chart offers an opening to make a party special, when a particularly thoughtful pairing can mean the difference between stimulating and stultifying. Those layers of detail are what sets our events apart and what people find astounding. We’ve learned to plant surprises, big and small, as a series of moments that unfold as the event progresses and as guests physically move around. This delivers a sense of discovery that keeps the party moving and keeps guests intrigued,” says Stark.

Clearly a labor of love, The Art of the Party shows just how passionate David and his team are about bringing the art and joy of a party to life. Everyone needs to share in that happiness.

We’re sharing just a few sneak peeks into David’s new book in stores on May 7th, but thankfully, it’s also now available for pre-order. Take a minute to order your own copy, and maybe, a copy for friend.
