A Cut Above ~ Laser Cut Invitations You Will LOVE!
The obsession with laser cut paper continues, and may in fact, be even more adored today than it was a few years ago when it first exploded onto the wedding scene. There’s just something magical about the delicate technique and fine art aspect of the application. Traditionally, laser cutters have been used for more industrial purposes, but now that the world’s best stationery designers are employing this medium in their wedding invitations, menus, place cards, and ceremony programs, the fascination just gets more intense! And with good reason.
“Brides love laser cut because it’s something special – it takes a standard invitation and upgrades it to the next level. It gives guests that “wow” factor that I, too, love!” says Ceci Johnson of Ceci New York, a luxury invitation studio that has been designing laser cut invitations for several years. {Some of Ceci’s stunning laser cut invitations are shown above and immediately below}
“My goal is always to add a level of artistry and intrigue that they never expected. We are definitely seeing the laser-cut trend on the runways and in interior design – but I must say I’ve been doing laser-cut invitations for quite some time. So I’m happy to see the trend catch on in other lifestyle and fashion arenas!” says Ceci.
“Laser-cut is such a decadent way to add visual interest and take your invitation up a notch. Because the technique is so intricate, it allows for a level of detail that few other paper cutting methods do. Naturally, the style is perfect for brides who are seeking a unique invitation that is completely their own. It’s all about personalization. I can laser-cut a couple’s monogram into the invitation or create beautiful lace patterns or even do the entire invitation in a bright, colorful laser-cut like we did in in this colorful, Mexican-inspired invitation set,” says Ceci Johnson. {See below, and click here to read more about the inspiration for Ashley’s invitations.}
Andrea Liss, Founder of the award-winning Hannah Handmade invitation studio in Chicago says, “Laser cutting adds an intricate and tactile element of surprise to our invitations. It also takes accessories like menus and seating cards to another level, creating depth and a sense of reveal.” After more than 20 years in the invitation design business, Andrea is a trendsetting leader in the stationery industry and specializes in unusual applications in her wedding designs.” In addition to paper, we have laser cut our designs into wood, metal and acrylic for even more dramatic effects, ” says Andrea.
Regarding this eye-popping Intricate Laser Cut Gatefold Invitation above, Andrea explains that “laser cutting was included as the ultimate in luxury for this bride that loves trees and her groom who wanted to honor his Liberian heritage. The intricate hand drawn leaf gatefold was laser cut to reveal a delicate gold thread paper behind it. The foil stamped invitation with a bold geometric pattern was a second reveal, and a matching gold charm completed the look. The ensemble was delivered in a handmade box made with custom embossed velvet.”
For the Laser Cut Frame and Chantilly Lace Invitation shown above and immediately below, Andrea noted, “This opulent piece used laser cutting to highlight the engraved invitation panel inside a handmade folio. The shimmery silver Chantilly lace from France was matched with an intricate silver laser cut frame and rich merlot velvets and satins. A double wide laser cut belly band around the custom envelope completed the look.”
“Laser cutting makes a glamorous statement when used to enhance day-of accessories like programs, menus and place cards. It can be embellished with layers of fabric, paper, Swarovski crystals, and hand calligraphy for the ultimate in day-of luxury,” says Andrea Liss of Hannah Handmade.
After many of you lovely brides got a glimpse of the gold laser cut invitations from Two Paperdolls that we shared previously, you begged us for more! Vanessa Kreckel, Owner and Creative Director of Two Paperdolls in Philadelphia told us “Laser Cut is the ultimate in luxury when it comes to the wedding invitation. It’s a fascinating process and a technology that produces gorgeously intricate results—results which many people have never seen the likes of. It brings the tactile quality and sophistication of the invitation to a whole new level, and that’s why brides fall in love with it. Within a wedding suite, Laser Cut can emulate anything from the lace of a bride’s gown to the elaborate metalwork of an 18th century iron gate.”
“We love Laser Cut because it allows for the invitation suite to be even more custom and personalized to the couple. It allows our creativity to run rampant, and the possibilities are truly endless!” says Vanessa. {Some of Vanessa’s laser cut invitations are seen above and just below, right down to the pretty magenta belly banded suite.}
Kristy Rice of Momental Designs, an internationally renown invitation art studio located in Pennsylvania, designed this elegantly hand-painted invitation for a lovely outdoor wedding in Kentucky. “The bride was all about layering textures, from paper to lace and hand calligraphy. The invitation’s folder featured a breezy peony pattern speckled with moments of gold and white and all the pieces of the invitation suite were wrapped up with our Signature Vintage Lacy Pattern made into a delicate laser cut masterpiece.”
“The bride loved the laser cut wraps so much that they ended up making another appearance on the dinner menus,” says Kristy.
