Sade's Fascination's for April: Highlights from Bridal Fashion Week 2014
Marchesa’s brilliant designers Georgina Chapman and Karen Craig created a collection that is romantic, using tulle and embroidered lace to create billowing ballgowns. I loved the use of rich tafeta and the liberal use of peplum. {Photos by George Chinsee}
Carolina Herrera. Lace was everywhere in her designs, weaved and incorporated within in intricate, sophisticated designs blended with metallics. There were hand-painted lace motifs and stunningly beautiful silhouettes. I have to say, one of my favorite gowns had chantilly lace with a gold embroidered bodice and a cynched waist line. Carolina stayed true to her elegant and classic designs, but with one-of-a-kind detailing. {Photos by John Aquino}
Vera Wang’s collection was all about the black and white of it all. A dramatic palette with a minimalist tone and edgy urban vibe that combined to bring to the season what she does best. Push the envelope in bridal fashion. Challenge our perception of what is the modern bride. {Photos by Thomas Lannaccone}
Angel Sanchez Perhaps my most favorite Spring 2014 Bridal Collection overall, just based on the “Wow!” “Wow!” “Wow!” I kept hearing myself say as each gown appeared. Angel’s sophisticated and modern designs mixed liberally with asymmetrical skirts, ruffles and dimensions just stood out as real dramatic statements. Very sexy, but in a classy way. {Photos by Sade Awe}
Romona Keveza Couture is such a passionate designer and her 2014 collection “Past. Present. Future” exudes, as usual, pure elegance and romance. No matter the collection, her gowns are TIMELESS. I was thrilled to see her Spring 2014 collection pay tribute to times past, present and future, from the 1800’s, the Roaring 20’s, 1930’s Hollywood Glamour, the late 1940s return to luxury, 1950s funny face, 1960s Camelot/Bohemian all through to the Fur=tur in 2014. Elegant and through provoking. {Photos by Sade Awe}
Monique Lhuillier‘s Spring 2014 collection was designed to cover all types of brides …no matter what your style or taste Monique has you covered. Are you going to the Justice of the Peace at City Hall, saying your vows in a Grand Palace in India, getting married on a beach in the Caribbean islands, it doesn’t matter. There’s truly something lovely for every bride. I love the new “Jackie O” structured, clean line suits, the shift dresses with the matching jackets. And, of course I adored Monique’s romantic fairy tale ballgowns with their layers of beautiful lace. {Photos by George Chinsee}
Aren’t these gowns just incredible? I hope you’re as inspired as I am to see all the new gowns…
